Black copper oxide is a black powder used as a colorant in the preparation of slips and glazes. It can act as a flux and produce more fluid glazes. In oxidation firings, it typically produces greens, while its reduction fired result is red. Because it contains a higher percentage of copper than copper carbonate, the fired color with copper oxide is more intense than copper carbonate.
